History
Muslims have been worshipping at Westbourne Road, Luton since the 1970's. The initial site for the Masjid was number two Westbourne Road. As the Muslim population grew in Luton, number four and subsequently number six were also acquired.

The site was used for the five daily prayers as-well as Jumu'ah Salah. Evening classes for children also took place to teach basic Arabic and Qur'anic studies. Larger gatherings such as the Eid Prayers and Mawlid Conference were difficult to accomodate as attendees would be scattered across three separate buildings. In the early 1980's the local community took a brave decision to demolish the three separate houses and in their place construct one of the UK's largest purpose built Masjid.

This was a long and hard struggle as the early Muslim migrants were living off simple wages; many had yet to establish themselves and had plans of bringing their families over from abroad. Nevertheless, the Muslims of Luton wholeheartedly supported this cause with many men donating their entire weeks wage packets and women donating their gold and jewellery. Their sacrifice, steadfastness and devotion paid off on November 1982 when the completed building was officially opened.
